Southern Utah Veterans Home
Welcome to Veterans Calendar, an event calendar for Veterans of Southern Utah, including the Southern Utah Veteran Service Organizations. It is intended to cover veteran-related events in the Southern Utah area, giving dates and addresses and which branch is sponsoring said event.
Hi everyone, our next veteran's coalition meeting is set for tomorrow, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. at Utah Tech's Holland Building (5th Floor).
If you have an item you would like on the agenda, please let me know before 11 a.m. tomorrow. As always, having items on the agenda helps me apportion time appropriately so that we can discuss all that we want to in the one hour we have.
See you at Utah Tech!
Thanks, David
Hi everyone, each year, the City of St. George pauses on September 11 to reflect, honor and remember.
➡️ Join us Thursday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. at Historic Town Square for our annual Patriot Day: Remembering 9/11 program.
This year, we are honored to welcome Victor Guzman, a 9/11 survivor, whose story of resilience and hope will inspire us all.
The evening will also include:
🔔 Bell tribute from the St. George Fire Department
🎶 Performances by children’s choirs and bagpipes
🎡 Free carousel rides and kids activities
And a Flag retirement ceremony
📍 Don’t miss the Field of Heroes display, Sept. 10–13 — featuring 343 American flags in honor of the first responders who gave their lives on 9/11.
Thanks, David
Please see the flyer about the Constitution Day dinner (deadline to register is Aug 31). Please direct all questions to petecarter99@hotmail.com.
The dedication of Southern Utah National Cemetery will be Wednesday, September 10 at 9 a.m.
An estimated 1,340 veterans will now have access to VA burial option with the opening of the National Cemetery Administration’s 157th cemetery.
The cemetery is located at 2181 W. 1600 S., Cedar City, West of Interstate 15, south of Cross Hollow Road (Rt 130).
This is a special meeting, and not just because of the location. We will spend the lion's share of the meeting talking about our various Veterans Day events and what we can do to support each other. I anticipate this meeting lasting 90 minutes to 2 hours, so heads up.
I know that there are three main Veterans Day events, which include:
• Veterans Day Parade and program in Washington City
• Veterans Day event at SunRiver
• Veterans Day event at Utah Tech.
We will want to discuss what these events will include and what needs may be present.
We will also have our regular meeting items as well, so PLEASE send me your agenda items by the end of the day Monday. I look forward to seeing you Tuesday, August 19!
David Cordero

Two great events this weekend — one has started already and that is the Armed Forces Celebration at the Western Sky Aviation Warbird Museum (4196 S. Airport Parkway). This event goes until 5 p.m. tonight and then Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Check out vintage fighter jets, military displays, food vendors and more!
other awesome event is the 1940s style Hangar Dance, Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. There will be a swing dance lesson, the St. George Jazz Band will play all the great hits of the 1940s and period dress is encouraged (but not required!)

This meeting is especially important as it includes the election of your staff officers for the 2025/2026 term. This is your detachment, and your vote helps shape its leadership and future direction—so please make your voice heard!
Looking forward to a great turnout!

As you know, the next Veterans Coalition meeting is set for Tuesday, March 18 at 1 pm at Utah Tech's Holland Building, in the 5th floor Zion Room. This meeting is always set for the third Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m.
If you have anything you want on the agenda, please reply to this email no later than Tuesday at 10 am. Having a solid agenda helps me apportion time appropriately to accommodate our needs within the 1-hour window we have.
To my recollection, we do not have a speaker lined up.
Thanks, David
After careful consideration and weighing the needs of our veterans coalition attendees, I determined that it will be best to conduct future meetings of the Veterans Coalition of Southern Utah at the Utah Tech University. The next meeting is set for Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. Inside the Zion Room of the Holland building. I hope to see you there!
The primary reason for the change is that it is a central location geographically for those who attend our meetings. Another smaller, but I think significant, factor is that we hope that we can get some of the younger veterans more involved, such as the Utah Tech Army ROTC and perhaps some of our younger cadets at the high school level.
I'm working with Karl Watters to again provide a detailed parking plan and for details on a shuttle service for those unable to walk the distance from the parking lot to the Holland Building.
I want to publicly thank the Southern Utah Veterans Home for welcoming us with open arms a couple years ago when we moved meetings to that location. They were great hosts and I hope you take the opportunity to extend a heartfelt thanks to them as well.
In 2026, the plan is to move the coalition to the new City of St. George office building on Main Street.
Thanks, David 435-512-1511 (text)
We had talked about potential location changes for the 2025 year. After careful consideration, here is what I had in mind for the Veterans Coalition for the first half of 2025.
I think this will balance a few needs:
1. To have a few days in a spot that is more centrally located to the population base; and
2. The desire for the Southern Utah Veterans Home to be in the mix as hosts. We love their hospitality and I feel our purpose is amplified when we are there.
Schedule for January through June meetings

Therefore, our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21, inside the Zion Room, located on the 5th Floor of the Holland Building at Utah Tech. It is recommended to park in either Lot N or Lot O.)
As you will note, the meetings from August through November (we usually skip December) are to be determined.
